Hindi Explanation of the lesson ‘The Enchanted Pool’

1. Youdhishthira waited ……….. might find them.

युधिष्ठिर ने चिंता और प्यास से दु:खी होकर अपने भाइयों की प्रतीक्षा की। “क्या वे किसी शाप के शिकार हो गए हैं, या वे अब भी पानी की तलाश में जंगल में भटक रहे हैं ?” क्या वे मूर्छित गए हैं या पानी न मिलने के कारण प्यार से मर गए हैं ? इन विचारों को सहन न कर पाने के कारण तथा तीव्र प्यास से पीड़ित होने पर उन्होंने अपने भाइयों की प्रतीक्षा करना छोड़ दिया और इस आशा के साथ की कहीं न कहीं अपने भाइयों को पा लेंगे, वे अपने भाइयों तथा तालाब की खोज में चल पड़े।

2. Yudhishthira proceeded ……… and wept.

युधिष्ठिर उसी दिशा में चले गए जिधर उनके भाई गए थे तथा जंगली भालू और चितकबरे हिरन एवं बड़ी-बड़ी जंगली चिड़ियों से भरे हुए जंगल में चलते रहे जब तक कि वे साफ पानी के तालाब के चारों ओर फैले हुए घास के मैदान में न पहुंच गए । किंतु जैसे ही उन्होंने अपने भाइयों को बेहोश पड़े हुए देखा अपने आपको दु:ख को रोकने में असमर्थ पाकर बड़ी जोर से रो पड़े।

3. He touched ………….. belongs to me.

उन्होंने भीम और अर्जुन के चेहरे को छुआ जो चुपचाप पड़े हुए थे और उन्होंने विलाप किया – “क्या हमारी सभी प्रतिज्ञाओं का यही अंत होना था? ठीक उस समय जब हमारे बनवास का अंत होने वाला है, तुम मुझसे छीन लिए गए हो। मेरे संकट के समय देवताओं ने भी मुझे छोड़ दिया है।” जो ही उन्होंने अपने भाइयों के शक्तिशाली अंगों की ओर देखा जो इस समय इतनी असहाय अवस्था में थे, उन्होंने दु:खी होकर आश्चर्य किया कि ऐसा कौन हो सकता जो उन्हें मार सके। तब अत्यंत प्यास से पीड़ित होकर वे भी तालाब में उतर गए। तुरंत ही बगैर स्वरूप वाले एक आवाज में उन्हें चेतावनी दी –

” तुम्हारे भाइयों की मृत्यु हो गई है क्योंकि उन्होंने मेरे शब्दों पर ध्यान नहीं दिया। मेरे प्रश्नों का उत्तर दिए बिना ही उन्होंने तालाब का पानी पीने का प्रयत्न किया। उनका अनुसरण मत करो। पहले मेरे प्रश्नों का उत्तर दो, तभी तुम पानी पी सकते हो। यह तालाब मुझसे संबंधित है।”

4. It did not take ………… answer decisively.

युधिष्ठिर को समझने में एक क्षण भी न लगा कि उनके भाइयों के साथ क्या घटित हुआ। उन्हें पुनः जीवित करने का संभव उपाय ज्ञात करने में भी युधिष्ठिर को देर न लगी। उन्होंने बगैर स्वरूप वाली आवाज से कहा, “कृपया अपने प्रश्न पूछिए।”
उस आवाज ने शीघ्रता से एक के बाद दूसरेे प्रश्न पूछे।
“संकट में व्यक्ति को कौन बचाता है?”
“साहस।”
“किस विज्ञान के अध्ययन से व्यक्ति बुद्धिमान होता है?”
“किसी भी शास्त्र के अध्ययन से व्यक्ति बुद्धिमान नहीं बनता है। बुद्धिमान व्यक्तियों के साथ रहने सेे व्यक्ति को बुद्धिमत्ता प्राप्त होती है।”
“हवा से अधिक तेेज क्या है?”
“मस्तिष्क”
“सूखे हुए तिनके से भी अधिक मुरझाया हुआ क्या है?”
“दु:ख से पीड़ित ह्रदय।”
“यात्री का मित्र कौन है?”
“ज्ञान।”
“जो व्यक्ति घर पर रहता है उसका मित्र कौन है?”
“उसकी पत्नी।”
“मृत्यु में व्यक्ति का साथ कौन देता है?”
“धर्म। केवल धर्म ही मृत्यु के बाद की एकाकी यात्रा में आत्मा का साथ देता है।”
“सबसे बड़ा बर्तन कौन सा है?”
“पृथ्वी,जो सबको अपने अंदर रखती है सबसे बड़ा बर्तन है।”
“सुख क्या है?”
“अच्छे आचरण का परिणाम सुख है।”
“वह कौन सी वस्तुु है,जिसको छोड़ने पर व्यक्ति सबका प्रिय हो जाता है?”
“अभिमान। क्योंकि यदि व्यक्ति अभिमान करना छोड़ दें,तो सबका प्रिय हो जाता है।”
“वह कौन सी हानि है जो आनन्द देती है न कि दु:ख।”
“क्रोध। यदि हम क्रोधित होना छोड़ दे,तो हम दुख से पीड़ित नहीं होंगे।”
“वह क्या है जिसे छोड़ने पर व्यक्ति धनी बन जाता है।”
“इच्छा। यदि व्यक्ति लालची होना छोड़ दे, तो वह धनी हो जाता है।”
“व्यक्ति को कौन सी वस्तु ‘वास्तविक ब्राम्हण’ बनाती है क्या यह जन्म, अच्छा आचरण या ज्ञान है?  निश्चयात्मकरूप से उत्तर दो।”

5. Birth and learning ……… a lower class.

“जन्म और ज्ञान व्यक्ति को ‘ब्राह्मण’ नहीं बनाते हैं, केवल अच्छा आचरण ही उसे ‘ब्राह्मण’ बनाता है। एक व्यक्ति चाहे कितना भी विद्वान क्यों न हो, अपनी बुरी आदतों को छोड़े बिना वह ‘ब्राम्हण’ नहीं हो सकेगा। बुरे आचरण का व्यक्ति निम्न जाति का माना जाएगा, चाहे वह चारों वेदों का ज्ञाता ही क्यों न हो।

6. What is the greatest wonder …….. these two.

“संसार में सबसे बड़ा आश्चर्य क्या है ?” प्रत्येक दिन व्यक्ति प्राणियों को यम के राज्य को जाते हुए देखते हैं, फिर भी जो व्यक्ति रह जाते हैं, वे सदैव जीवित रहना चाहते हैं। वास्तव में यही सबसे बड़ा आश्चर्य है।”

इस प्रकार यक्ष ने बहुत से प्रश्न पूछे और युधिष्ठिर ने उन सब का उत्तर दिया। अंत में यक्ष ने कहा, “हे राजा, तुम्हारे मरे हुए भाइयों में से एक को पुनः जीवित किया जा सकता है। तुम किस भाई को पुनः जीवित करना चाहते हो?”

युधिष्ठिर को विचार करने में एक क्षण का समय लगा और तब उन्होंने इच्छा प्रकट किया कि बादलों के रंग वाले, कमल जैसे आंखों वाले, चौड़े सीने वाले तथा लंबी भुजा वाले नकुल जो गिरे हुए आबनूस पेड़ की तरह पड़े हुए हैं उन्हें जीवित कर दीजिए।

इस पर यश प्रसन्न हो गए और उन्होंने युधिष्ठिर से पूछा, “तुमने भीम को जिसमें 16000 हाथियों की शक्ति है, न चुनकर नकुल को क्यों चुना? मैंने सुना है कि भीम आपको बहुत अधिक प्रिय हैं और अर्जुन को क्यों नहीं जिनके हथियारों में निपुणता है आपकी रक्षा के लिए। मुझे बताओ कि तुमने इन दोनों में से किसी एक के स्थान पर नकुल को चुनना क्यों अधिक अच्छा समझा।

7. Youdhishthira replied …….. may revive.

युधिष्ठिर ने उत्तर दिया, “हे यक्ष मनुष्य की अकेली ढाल धर्म है न कि अर्जुन और भीम। यदि धर्म छोड़ दिया जाए, तब व्यक्ति नष्ट हो जाएगा। कुंती और मारी मेरे पिता की दो पत्नियां थी। कुंती का एक पुत्र में जीवित हूं ।इसलिए वह पूरी तरह से वंचीत नहीं है। न्याय की तराजू के पलड़े एक समान रहें, अतः मैंने निवेदन करता हूं कि माद्री का पुत्र नकुल जीवित हो जाए।”

युधिष्ठिर की निष्पक्षता पर यक्ष बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और उसने वरदान दिया कि युधिष्ठिर के सभी भाई जीवित हो जाए।

It was Yama ……….. disappeared.

यह मृत्यु के देवता यमराज थे जिन्होंने यक्ष का रूप धारण कर लिया था ताकि वे युधिष्ठिर से मिल सके और उनकी परीक्षा ले सकें। उन्होंने युधिष्ठिर को गले लगाया ; और तब वहां से अदृश्य हो गए।

Ans. Yaksha was Yama, the lord of Death, He took the form of Yaksha to test Yudhishthira the Dharmaraj. He intended to test his patience, kindness, love for his kiths and kins and intelligence. Some of his important questions that he asked Yudhishthira were as follow :

(1) What rescues man in danger ? (2) By the study of which science does man become wise? (3) What is swifter than wind ? (4) What be friends a traveller? (5) Who accompanies a man in death? What is happiness? (7) What is that, by giving up which man becomes rich? (8) What makes one a real Brahman? and (9) What is the greatest wonder in the world?

Ans. Yudhishthira pleased Yaksha by giving satisfactory answers to his questions. He told him that courage protects man against misery. Mind runs faster than he wind and knowledge helps a traveller. Dharma goes with man at the time of death. Good conduct results in pleasure. Pride is worth avoidable and anger is very harmful. The greatest wonder is that man dies daily and still he believes in life. The result was that Yaksha pleased very much with his answers and recharged new life into his dead brothers.
